Series Preview: 4/17-4/19 at LAA

Records Entering Series: BOS (13-2, 1st in AL East), LAA (13-3, 1st in AL West)

Boston begins their road trip with a visit to LAA in a matchup of two teams enjoying tons of early success.

The Angels offense has been obliterating the ball to the tune of a .291 team BA and 103 runs scored, and their pitching has been top-notch as well, with a 3.19 team ERA.

The Red Sox will probably be happy taking just 1 of 3 here, with anything more being a bonus.

Hitters to Watch

LAA: Shohei Ohtani – With Ohtani Pitching in game 1, he will likely only see one game out in the field vs. Boston. Regardless, though, all eyes will be on the Japanese phenom to see what he can do against Red Sox pitching that has been superb so far.

BOS: Rafael Devers – Devers started 2018 red hot, but has since gone ice cold since. He has just 4 hits in his last 6 games, and he’ll be looking to break out of his mini slump and instill some confidence back in himself.

Pitchers to Watch

LAA: Shohei Ohtani – Ohtani will take the mound in game 1, going up against David Price. He’s been magnificent in his 2 starts so far, racking up 18 K’s in just 13 IP and posting a 2.08 ERA and .46 WHIP. It will be the first time any of the Red Sox hitters will see him, so an adjustment period in the first turn through the order is expected.

BOS: David Price – Honestly, there’s no other option here besides Price. After throwing 14 scoreless inning across his first 2 starts, Price left the game after the 1st inning in his start vs. the Yankees after allowing 4 runs with what the team called a “sensation in his throwing hand.” With a history of injuries, Red Sox Nation will be keeping a close eye on his performance and health vs. LAA.

Matchup to Watch: Mike Trout vs. Boston Pitching

The 2-time MVP has been very successful in his career vs. the Red Sox, hitting .320 with a .971 OPS, 8 HR and 24 RBI in 36 games. He’s off to a great start to the season, as well, blasting 6 HR with 13 RBI so far, and David Price, Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez and the bullpen will look to at least contain the damage he does.
